A delightful twist on the classic French dessert featuring sweet pears, rich caramel, and crunchy almonds.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized ripe pears, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed

Instructions

  1. Gather all your ingredients. Peel and slice the pears, and let them sit for a few minutes to prevent browning.
  2. Melt the butter in a large, oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Add the sugar and cook without stirring until it turns a golden amber color, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the sliced pears to the skillet, arranging them in a circular pattern. Cook for about 5 minutes until the edges start to soften.
  4. Sprinkle the sliced almonds over the pears, followed by the vanilla extract and cinnamon if using.
  5. Roll out the thawed puff pastry and place it over the pears and caramel, tucking the edges down into the sides of the skillet.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is puffy and golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before carefully inverting onto a serving plate.
  8. Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Watch the caramel closely to prevent burning. Ensure the pears fit comfortably without overlapping.
