Create flavorful homemade broth cubes for soups and sauces, elevating your cooking with a rich base.

Ingredients

  • 2 chicken breasts (or a similar amount of beef or vegetable scraps)
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 10 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large pot, combine the chicken (or your chosen base), chopped carrots, celery, onion, minced garlic, bay leaves, and water.
  2. Bring to a Boil: Heat the pot over medium-high heat until the mixture begins to boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low.
  3. Simmer and Develop Flavor: Allow the broth to simmer gently for 150 minutes. This slow cooking will extract all the flavors from the ingredients.
  4. Strain the Broth: After simmering, remove from heat and strain the broth through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, discarding the solids.
  5. Freeze the Broth: Pour the strained liquid into ice cube trays and freeze until solid. This may take a few hours.
  6. Store the Cubes: Once frozen, transfer the cubes to a sealed container or freezer bag and store them in the freezer for later use.

Notes

For vegetarian options, use vegetable scraps instead of chicken. Customize the flavor with herbs and spices.
